Background
At the 2023 SDG Summit, Member States committed to advancing bold, ambitious and transformative action to accelerate achievement of the SDGs between now and 2030. In pursuing this objective, they encouraged all relevant actors to better address interlinkages, synergies and trade-offs across the SDGs.
To highlight the ongoing response of the UN development system and Member States to this call for acceleration, the Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Spain, will convene an HLPF Special Event entitled Keeping the SDG Promise: Pathways for Acceleration, on Monday, 15 July 2024, 3:00-600 p.m. in the ECOSOC Chamber.
The Special Event will examine the role of SDG transitions in SDG acceleration, profile concrete examples of progress, highlight the crucial connection between the development of updated NDCs and SDG acceleration, and provide an update on progress across the “High Impact Initiatives” (HIIs), championed by the United Nations development system and others at the 2023 SDG Summit. As we look ahead to the Summit of the Future and Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, it will also highlight the importance of reform of the international architecture and access to the necessary means to acceleration.
