Resilient prosperity: Strategic Partnerships to Advancing Science, Technology, and Innovation in Small Island Developing States

The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) will hold its 2024 Partnership Forum on 30 January 2024 at the UN Headquarters in New York under the overall theme of “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”. The Partnership Forum will place special emphasis on the SDGs under review at the 2024 session of the High-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF): SDG 1 (no poverty); SDG 2 (zero hunger), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 16 (peace and justice) and SDG 17 (partnership for the Goals).
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Small Island Developing States Unit of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will organize a side event that focuses on scaling up strategic partnerships to advance Science, Technology, and Innovation in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) towards a resilient future.
Objective:
The side event aims to explore and promote effective partnerships in science, technology, and innovation to facilitate resilient prosperity and to achieve sustainable development in SIDS.
Expected outcome:
The discussion will showcase good examples of innovative partnerships that facilitate STI in SIDS, identify challenges and provide recommendations on creating enabling environment in SIDS to advance STI in SIDS-specific context. The output of the discussions will inform the STI Forum, SIDS4 and the High-Level Political Forum in Sustainable Development in 2024.
