Background
Climate change and biodiversity loss result in profound societal and economical risks. At the COP21 in Paris in December 2015, Parties to the UNFCCC decided to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change through the adoption of the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement aims to accelerate action and investment to hold the increase in global average temperature to well below 2oC above preindustrial levels, increase the ability to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and make financial flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate-resilient development.
