The United Nations Department of Economics and Social Affairs (DESA), in collaboration with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the UN Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD), is organizing a three-day Expert Group Meeting on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in order to help prepare for the Multi-stakeholder Forum on STI for the SDGs ("STI Forum") in May 2023 and the SDG Summit in September 2023. The meeting will bring together the UN Secretary General's 10-Member-Group of High-level Representatives of Private Sector, Civil Society and Scientific Community (10-Member-Group), the Inter-agency Task Team on STI for the SDGs (IATT), and selected STI experts from academia, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and the UN system.
The meeting will focus on how best to structure the 2023 STI Forum, to make an effective contribution to the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2023, and more broadly, accelerate progress toward the SDGs. The meeting will be structured along the theme of the HLPF 2023. The meeting will also identify key lessons learned from the Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM) since its inception in 2015, to support strategic planning for the work of the TFM in the coming years.
