Description

The Swedish School of Textiles at the University of Borås is an attractive higher education institution that maintains high quality according to international ratings. It is an internationally leading University, with students and employees coming from all over the world to develop a sustainable future for the fashion and textile field. In collaboration with the business community and the public sector, we conduct education and research of high international quality and with great relevance to society. Our Science Park, part of the University of Borås, is a natural partner for business-driven projects in the fashion and textile sector.

The University's vision statement is as follows: Together, we take responsibility for the future.

Through continually developing distinctive education and research, we make a difference. Using an experimental design approach, the Department of Design teaches and explores textiles, fashion, and clothing in a very broad sense, including aspects such as human body-based expressions, social sustainability, body-dress-space interactions, material innovation, textile craft, digital specialism, responsible production and consumption through design. The Swedish School of Textile also includes the Departments of Textile Technology, Textile Management and unique textile laboratories with all textile process inhouse. In this environment ideas from students, researchers, and the industry become innovations for the future. Since 2018, the Swedish government has given the University of Borås the task of establishing and developing the national platform for sustainable fashion and textiles; Textile & Fashion 2030. The Swedish School of Textiles is located in the Textile Fashion Center, a textile hub that gathers textile and fashion education, industry, and laboratories all under one roof in Borås, Sweden.

Implementation of the Project/Activity

1) As the first higher education institution The Swedish school of Textiles will design, produce and provide a new tour guide collection for the Headquarters of the United Nations. The collection designed by design students is characterized by sustainability, creativity, inclusivity and innovation, and will be launched in April 2025.

2) Textile & Fashion 2030 is a neutral arena that unites academia, industry and the public sector towards a circular textile and fashion industry. Through various concepts and tools, it is a resource for the UN Fashion and Lifestyle Network to provide inspiration, skills development and challenge the sector for more sustainable solutions.

3) Implement SDG master classes given by the experts of the UN Fashion and Lifestyle network into our full-time educational programmes on graduate and post graduate level and shorter courses at the Swedish School of Textiles.

4) Communicate and share best practices, case studies and results within research and education in the UN Fashion and Lifestyle Network platform.
