Description
Quinsera is the first Sustainable Fashion education platform established in Ghana to drive sustainability at the core of Ghanaian fashion businesses through the provision of women-led novel sustainability information and education. The platform adopts these five SDGs; Goal 4: Quality Education Goal 5: Gender Equality Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production Goal 13: Climate Action Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals Quinsera's approach to fashion sustainability and climate change is hinged on the idea that women are a vital resource as carers for the environment, and this idea guides our mission. At Quinsera, we believe that we can mitigate the issues of climate change and move towards a sustainable future through leadership, as well as through motivating community action to develop climate resilience and influence local and global policy. We aim to achieve this by educating women, giving them more leadership opportunities, and bringing their voices to the forefront. Through Quinsera, we design programs and initiatives for fashion students in Higher Education Institutions to help students develop practical dissertations that prioritise the SDGs and tackle global challenges within the fashion industry.
To effectively deliver its mission of promoting sustainability in fashion education, Quinsera employs the following implementation methodologies:
1. Project-Based Learning
- Hands-On Projects: Students are engaged through real-world projects, like sustainable fashion designs or climate action initiatives, which help them apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems.
- Dissertation Support: Students are guided in developing dissertations that align with SDGs, providing practical research outcomes with real-world applicability in the fashion industry.
2. Collaborative Partnerships
- Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration: Quinsera partners with higher education institutions, fashion businesses, NGOs, and government bodies. These partnerships enable resource sharing, joint initiatives, and mutual learning.
- Cross-Institutional Programs: Collaborative programs between different institutions and industry players foster shared knowledge, allowing for the development of innovative and sustainable solutions.
3. Capacity Building and Mentorship
- Workshops and Training: Regular training sessions and workshops are held to build the capacity of students, educators, and fashion entrepreneurs in sustainable practices.
- Mentorship Programs: Experienced industry professionals mentor students, providing guidance and expertise to support sustainable fashion projects and career development.
4. Digital Learning and Resource Sharing -
Online Platforms: Quinsera uses digital platforms for course delivery, resource sharing, and virtual collaboration. This ensures accessibility and continuous learning for students and educators.
- **E-Learning Modules:** Specialized online courses are developed, focusing on sustainability, climate action, and responsible production in fashion.
5. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Continuous Improvement
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Quinsera sets measurable KPIs for each program to track progress and impact, such as the number of trained students, partnerships formed, and sustainability outcomes.
- Feedback Loops: Continuous feedback from students, faculty, and partners is integrated into program design, allowing for ongoing improvement and adaptation to emerging needs.
Quinsera leverages its website as a key platform for facilitating knowledge sharing and capacity-building, offering resources and tools to promote sustainable fashion practices. Additionally, the organization runs a book club where members engage with sustainable fashion literature and participate in Instagram Live sessions to discuss insights and ideas. Quinsera also conducts workshops, provides online training modules, and fosters industry partnerships to further enhance knowledge transfer and build capacity across the fashion industry.
The core of Quinsera's governance is the Advisory Board, which consists of nine advisors. These advisors are responsible for shaping the organization’s strategy, guiding program development, and ensuring that all the initiatives undertaken align with Quinsera's mission of moving the Ghanaian fashion industry towards a sustainable future.
Quinsera's strengths lie in its holistic approach to sustainability and its innovative use of diverse platforms for education and engagement. The organization’s integration of digital resources, such as its website and Instagram Live sessions, makes sustainability knowledge accessible and engaging for a wide audience. The book club fosters continuous learning and community interaction, while its workshops and online modules offer hands-on, practical insights that drive real change in the fashion industry.
