Ambassadorial meeting of the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) 2025

Background
The Co-Chairs of the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States
(SIDS), H.E. Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United
Nations and H.E. Ms. Sanita Pavļuta-Deslandes, Permanent Representative of Latvia to the United
Nations, will convene the Ambassadorial-level meeting of the Steering Committee on 30 May
2025 from 10:00 a.m. – 11.30 a.m. in Conference Room 1, UNHQ, New York.
Paragraph 37 of the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS requests the United Nations Secretary-
General, in consultation with States, including through the Steering Committee on Partnerships for
SIDS, to present recommendations for the strengthening of the SIDS Partnership Framework and
the SIDS Global Business Network and its Forum. In response, UN DESA and UN OHRLLS have
undertaken an inclusive consultation process with member States, UN entities, civil society,
private sector and other stakeholders.
The proposed recommendations emerging from this process will be presented at the meeting for
the Committee’s consideration.
The recommendations will be included in the upcoming Secretary-General’s report on the followup
to the SAMOA Pathway and the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS), and Member
States will have an opportunity to discuss during the General Assembly’s Second Committee on
SIDS during its 80th session.
