Sustainable Development Goals Alliance
Description
The Secretariat is the body which oversees managing the various aspects of the Alliance, however, our values are modeled by the organizations which make up the alliance. Major decisions are voted on by these organizations at the General Club Assembly (GCA), which is a monthly gathering of all student clubs and organizations involved in the Alliance. University offices, non-member clubs, community partnerships (ie. industry, NGOs, etc.) may sit in on the sessions but voting rights are restricted to registered student organizations. The GCA serves as the central forum for discussion and collaboration for the Alliance by allowing students to voice their opinions and their concerns on current issues and projects. This forum also allows the alliance to come together to discuss upcoming events hosted by organizations in the alliance or in the community. They can promote and collaborate as a body to improve the quality and outreach of these events and connect with new partners.
This initiative is the first of its kind at any educational institution in Canada and is leading the way in creating a clearer sense of community while simultaneously uniting a diverse group of organizations to advocate for and implement the Sustainable Development Goals on a local, regional, national, and international level. The Secretariat brings together a variety of stakeholders into the General Club Assembly to facilitate conversations and collaborative projects between student clubs, the university, and organizations in the community.<br />

By training youth annually at the SDG Summit, the Alliance will continue to raise awareness and garner support for the SDGs. Providing students with the resources and knowledge surrounding the SDGs will drive innovation and motivation to implement unique projects in our community. Increasing the number of organizations in the alliance on an annual basis will become easier as the voice and media exposure continues to grow after hosting large scale events and implementing new projects. Eventually, through growing soft power and influence, the SDGA will become recognized by the University of Calgary administration and the Students' Union as the central student authority regarding Sustainable Development Goals and sustainable community development at the institution.<br />

As mentioned above, the Secretariat and the Alliance will seek to gain support from student organizations and community partnerships. the transfer of technology and resources will be on a voluntary basis from the parties supporting the Alliance. The Alliance will not seek to directly profit off donations and support in any form that it receives from any organization. All resources directed towards the SDGA will be used transparently and directed towards advancing the Alliance's goals of increasing youth engagement and advocating for more sustainable practices at the University of Calgary and in the community.<br />

The Alliance will continue training youth annually at the SDG Summit to continue to raising awareness and garnering support for the SDGs. This annual training day is designed to give students the capacity and knowledge necessary to identify issues with existing social and economic systems and seek to implement change wherever they can.
