    Description
    Description
Association for Supporting the SDGs for the UN (ASD), special consultative status with ECOSOC, devises sustainable models for key global corporations and the national assembly to participate and implement the SDGs.

ASD are partners with more than 20 major global corporations, promoting them to implement the SDGs. Global projects has been conducted worth more than 3.78 billion dollars for the past 5 years, with corporations such as CJ Logistics, HSBC, KT, SK Hynix, Ildong Pharmaceutical Group and Hansot, supporting them to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.

Among the projects, ASD supported, one of its most significant projects with CJ logistics, known as the Senior Parcel Delivery Service, which provided senior job opportunities for more than 1,500 people at 180 logistics center, creating energy forests in the wasteland areas surrounding Mega Cities such as Seoul, contributing in the reduction of fine dust. In May 2019, the company led a special SDGs campaign with ASD, to improve air pollution and initiated a public campaign to print messages that encourages the reduction of fine dust on 1.22 billion parcel box invoices (average number of invoices annually used). If the campaign is carried out annually, it would be a large scale eco-friendly campaign that can spread the fine dust reduction message to the public for more than once a week per generation. As a global pharmaceutical company, Ildong is the only Asian pharmaceutical company that actively participates in the SDGs initiatives. Global semiconductor company SK Hynix, has launched the ‘ECO Alliance’ where 30 partner companies implement the SDGs, namely the 'UP'. The partner companies who participate in ‘ECO Alliance’ each sets environmental management goals and joint environmental goals. It is a SDGs project that strives to find new eco-friendly business models, aiming to resolve environmental problems within the semiconductor industry. Also as the leading lunchbox company, Hansot, has strong influence toward the wide public through their passion for supporting the SDGs. The sales of Hansot lunch boxes have reached 600 million bowls, which is an amount to wrap the globe 60 times. Hansot is promoting the SDGs through environmental protection; eco-friendly packing containers, support for the disadvantaged and social development activities through fair trade.
ASD also supported global corporations to include the SDGs in their major management strategies, assisting them to voluntarily implement the SDGs in Korea, US, and Southeast Asia. In addition to providing advice and conducting global projects, ASD established the SDGBI, a global business index based on SDGs, which provides assistance to global corporations to systematically implement the SDGs. The SDGBI analyses management strategies of 1,000 companies around the world, and suggests methods of how corporations can participate in the SDGs. Practices are introduced as ‘SDGs Best Practice in Asia’ on the UN ESCAP Help Desk Website.
Moreover, ASD’s actions to accelerate the SDGs has been reported in major mass media such as Chosun Media.

    Expected Impact

SDGBI (SDGs Business Index), established by ASD, has been a crucial foundation for major global corporations in Korea, including Samsung, 1) to set up sustainable management strategies. As the world's first business management index based on the SDGs, the sustainability of the corporations were assessed through a criteria, classified into 12 categories in 4 areas. The SDGBI is expected to expand its scope globally, assessing and analyzing more than 1,000 domestic and international corporations from 2019. Through ASD's promotion on the SDGs, corporations are 2) expanding projects on sustainable growth, which is expected to raise the awareness of the general public on the SDGs. Also, member corporations (of ASD) are 3) replacing disposable and plastic products to renewable and Eco-friendly materials. Moreover, by collaboration with CJ Logistics, the Energy Forest Business project is expected to be an 4) effective countermeasure to combat fine dust and deforestation.
