    Description
    Green Chemistry for Life is a scientific and educational project launched in 2013 on the initiative of UNESCO and PhosAgro with the support of the IUPAC. The project is primarily aimed at solving global problems of sustainable development, with an emphasis on financial and scientific support for talented young scientists around the world specializing in innovative technologies in the field of green chemistry. These environmentally friendly, science-based technologies are designed to address environmental and health issues, food security, and identify new perspectives for energy conservation and the use of natural resources. A special grant for research on the use of phosphogypsum was established in 2016 in the framework of the Project.
    The Project offers research grants of up to US$30 000 to scientists who works on innovative research project that respects the 12 principles of green chemistry, to help them implement their projects. The fact that this Project was developed specifically to support researchers from around the world at the start of their careers makes it especially useful and important. Project sets out to raise awareness among decision- and policymakers, industrialists and the public at opportunities that green chemistry offers to meet pressing societal needs in according to the 2030 Agenda.The example of the grant program "Green Chemistry for Life" is a good proof that the development and implementation of innovative technologies receives a wide response from the scientific community. Moreover, active business support for scientific initiatives and, in particular, projects in the field of green chemistry, gives science the necessary impetus to achieve significant results in the development of green solutions, which can later be transferred from the theoretical field to production sites. New technologies and discoveries of scientists in the field of green technologies allow large businesses, in addition to the obvious advantages in terms of sustainable development (increasing the environmental friendliness of production processes and final products, etc.), to also get quite commercial benefits in the form of cost reduction and a good reputation in the eyes of key stakeholders.The Green Chemistry for Life Grant Programme is a unique visionary project with an international reach, combining the efforts of science and innovative technologies in forming a new ethic of progress, which provides for high responsibility for the prosperity of future generations and is based on the principles of sustainable development.
    Expected Impact

    Green Chemistry for Life project was adjusted to incorporate the SDGs 4; 6; 12; 15; 17. The project welcomes the scientific works of the young scientists from a number countries of Asia, Africa, the Middle and Far East, Europe, Latin America and Oceania. The Project is an example of both cultural and gender equality: in 2019 four out of nine winners were women, and over the last seven rounds of the Programme PhosAgro and UNESCO have given grants to 41 young scientists from 29 countries around the world. According to the SDG 5, we are promoting woman scientists from developing countries in their early career and support their research. Gender equality in the project is considered as crucial means to promote scientific and technological excellence.
    The overall objective of the project is to expand the global international capacity to use green chemistry to protect the environment and human health, introduce new environmentally science-based technologies, and identification of new prospects for the use of natural resources and energy conservation.
