Background
DESA, in collaboration with the International Panel of Mesoscience, organized a brownbag seminar during the 2024 HLPF. The seminar focused on how science can enhance the efficient implementation of the SDGs, building on a paper presented at the STI Forum. The discussions emphasized that the entire SDG system can be formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem, providing a framework for solutions. It highlighted the necessity of a deeper understanding of the SDGs through mesoscience. Additionally, the seminar stressed the importance of efforts and dialogues to translate abstract mathematical models into actionable policies for policymakers.
