The twelfth annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum) will be held from Wednesday, 5 May, to Thursday, 6 May 2027 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Forum will be convened by the President of ECOSOC, His Excellency Mr. Amar Bendjama, Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations. As per its mandate, the Forum will be organized by the UN interagency task team on STI for the SDGs (IATT), convened by UN-DESA and UNCTAD, and the 10-Member Group of high-level representatives appointed by the Secretary-General. This year’s STI Forum will be held back-to-back with the Global Dialogue on AI Governance 2027, to be held from 3 to 4 May 2027
As in previous years, the theme of the STI Forum will be closely aligned with that of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), to be held in July 2027 under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. The STI Forum will have an exclusive focus on the role and contributions of science, technology and innovation to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The 2027 HLPF will hold in-depth reviews of five SDGs: SDG 4. Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all; SDG 10. Reduce inequality within and among countries; SDG 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns; SDG 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss; and SDG 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
The specific theme of the STI Forum 2027 will align the theme of the 2027 ECOSOC/HLPF, which is: “Scaling up just transitions to achieving sustainable development, poverty eradication and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs.”
