UCSI 'Leave No One Behind' Education Project

    UCSI's "Leave No One Behind' Education project commits to provide vocational internships/apprenticeships for youths that have minimal or no access to a quality education program. The program facilitates learning around the concept of sustainable living by focusing on inculcation of positive character values, healthy well-being, and lifestyle, and developing their competencies in engaging and contributing to diverse social backgrounds as well as caring for the environment.
    Expected Impact

    UCSI works with NGOs and learning centers in recruiting underprivileged youths that are interested in improving their working skills as well as enhancement of their well-being. The orientation for this program is conducted through an online course that exposes potential candidates to the core activities and business of the project host, UCSI Living Lab. In this course, participants are exposed to the idea of a sustainable lifestyle, including growing their own food to reduce carbon footprints, and the use of multimedia in education. The content is developed by The Blue Ribbon Global and is sponsored by Potato Productions, Singapore. During their practicals, participants visit UCSI Living Lab where the residential program is conducted. This residential internship program runs for 3 months. During this period, the interns learn about ICT, e-commerce, Sustainable Living, permaculture, culinary and hospitality, peacebuilding, the national language, and English. The permaculture practical is done mainly at UCSI Living Lab and The Blue Ribbon's Garden Spring. Towards the end of the program, the interns may apply for an apprenticeship with any of UCSI subsidiaries or project partners. The alumni are invited to continue to take part in any online pieces of training that are organized to support their lifelong learning.

    Up to this date, the educational program includes 1) Permaculture Living by Milkwood Permaculture Institute and UCSI Living Lab 2) English Lesson by Centre for Languages (for those 16 years and older) 3) English Lesson for non-native speakers (for those younger than 16 years old) 4) Culinary and Hospitality by Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, UCSI University and UCSI Living Lab 5) Information and Communication Technology by UCSI University, UCSI Living Lab and Potato Productions, Singapore 6) Practical on edible gardening/farming by UCSI Living Lab and The Blue Ribbon 7) Practical on culinary and hospitality by FHTM and UCSI Living Lab 8) Learning and practical on E-Commerce by UCSI Living Lab

    Governed

    This initiative is co-organized by a few partners that work towards a common objective - education and working skills for underprivileged youths. Up to this date, the immediate beneficiaries are Orang Asal (indigenous people) of Malaysia, refugees, and asylum seekers. Each organization plays different roles. The project is hosted by UCSI Living Lab and is sustained through public support, such as volunteerism and various forms of donations. The project is managed by UCSI Group's SDG Secretariat Office. Throughout the program, the youths audited or audited courses and training that are provided by the project partners. The alumni are given the opportunities to do an apprenticeship and for Malaysians, to pursue various jobs with UCSI or project partners.
