Description
Description

Healthy marine ecosystems are key to supporting sustainable fisheries, ensuring food security, and building resilience in coastal communities.
Through the EAF-Nansen Programme, FAO is committed to advancing the implementation of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) to optimize socio-economic benefits while managing exploited resources within ecosystem boundaries and addressing impacts from climate change and pollution.
Building on the 50-year partnership between FAO and Norway, the EAF-Nansen Programme has been instrumental in advancing fisheries management, with a focus on improving food and nutrition security, conserving biodiversity, and building resilience in coastal communities.
From 2024 to 2028, the EAF-Nansen Programme will bring together regional organizations and 32 countries across Africa and the Bay of Bengal, aiming to:
- Promote sustainable aquatic food systems by bridging scientific research with fisheries management solutions.
- Generate and share valuable knowledge on marine ecosystems to inform evidence-based decision-making.
- Strengthen individual and institutional capacities in partner countries to support effective fisheries management
