    Description
    Description

As shoppers, it's almost impossible to know whether sustainability claims are fact or marketing fluff. Studies have identified that up to 70% of sustainability claims could be misleading or exaggerated. You could look at a product's certification—but not all certifications are created equal. Some are more stringent than others, some have different standards of what they consider "responsible," and some don't mean much at all. That's why we built Onyou: a marketplace where shoppers can find the best ethical brands from around the world in one place and get reliable information about their supply chains right on product pages. With Onyou, you can quickly see what each product has done to earn its certification or claim without searching through websites or jumping between brands' websites. We believe in making shopping better for everyone involved: for you as a shopper, for the workers who make our products, and for the incredible brands who are getting lost in the greenwash. Using the SDGs, we aim to raise awareness about how important garment welfare and social impact is.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

At Onyou, we have clearly laid out what “ethical fashion” means. Our definition serves as the pillars for the Onyou Labour Standards which guides our company and our brand partners. The foundational elements of the standards are based on the conventions of the ILO, the UN’s Declaration on Human Rights and the SDGs. Regular communication with our partners and customers is an important part of the implementation. We communicate via social media, websites, and newsletters.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Our goal is to reach out to the wider SDG network here in New Zealand to stay actively involved in the community and continue improving our Onyou Standards. Through local community engagement, NGOs, academic institutions, and our brand partners we believe we can learn and collaborate our way to a safer, healthier fashion industry.

    Evaluation

Annual impact reports and regular review meetings with our brand partners, collaborators and academic institutions. Additionally, all information and updates on key decisions and policies will be shared on social platforms as well as on our website.
