    No Nation Fashion (NNF) powered by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a brand and a social enterprise that promotes the inclusion of migrants in host communities and actively participates in making our societies more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable.

    NNF Mission: Harness the richness of diversity and potential of migration through fashion

    NNF Vision: Promoting the inclusion of migrants, while actively participating in the creation of more inclusive societies.

    Description

    NNF was born from the belief that migration can bring new opportunities to both migrants and local communities by creating more resilient and inclusive communities and shaping global social and economic landscape. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, IOM set up small sewing corners in transit centres across Bosnia and Herzegovina to allow migrants to improve their sewing skills by mending and altering their clothes and creating reusable masks from recycled materials. The initiative raised large interest in the creative sector with a number of local designers, artists and companies contributing to the development of the new fashion brand NNF. IOM used the existing infrastructure in TRCs, professional equipment and materials procured using donor funding and in-kind support/donations received from the private sector to develop the first collection showcased at the Fashion Show called The Story About Us, held on 16th of December 2021 at Sarajevo City Hall to mark International Migrants' Day and the launching of NNF. In May 2022, NNF won the IOM Global Innovation Award for Gender, Diversity & Social Inclusion. The award acknowledges the positive impacts of the NNF initiative on gender equality and social inclusion through fashion studios’ creative activities, workshops, and education. Furthermore, the initiative was recognized and published as one of the best practices in implementation of the Global Compact for Migration recognizing its impact in accelerating 2030 Agenda and SDGs 3, 5, 9, 10, 12 and 17.

    The NNF journey continued to celebrate International Migrants Day 2022 in Banja Luka with a theater fashion performance and a fashion show, in collaboration with local artists.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

    The NNF brand was developed in collaboration with migrants and local fashion designers and the vibrant local textile industry representatives in transit centres, where migrants stay temporarily on their journey to their final destination. This active collaboration of migrants and locals develops mutual understanding and learning that is expressed through the design and sewing process of different NNF items.

    NNF actively works on building a bridge between the host communities and the migrants, by enabling interactions, cooperation, education, cultural exchange of ideas, heritage and best practices. In addition, the host communities receiving concrete benefits with items created under the umbrella of NNNF being donated to the local schools and institutions through giving-back collection.

    Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

    NNF activities are aimed at empowering migrants through development/upskilling activities while catering for their wellbeing through creative therapy workshops in transit centres. Furthermore, the initiative aims to engage the broadest segment of the migrant and local population, ensuring the participation of all and enabling by enabling interactions, mutual cooperation, learning and understanding, cultural exchange of ideas, heritage and best practices.
