Description
The Netherlands announced an extensive package of measures (EUR 1.7 bln) to compensate the impact of the realisation of wind farms on the Dutch part of the North Sea, directed at the restoration of biodiversity, the offset of negative impacts, towards sea shipping safety and the transition to sustainable food production, including necessary innovation and scaling of fisheries, and additional research in the cumulative effects of the increase of wind and other forms of sustainable energy production at sea. Based on a national accord involving major stakeholders and the national government and consensus oriented discourse, this is part of the Dutch efforts to balance the energy transition, the biodiversity transition and the food production transition and other forms of usage needed for a healthy North Sea.
