Description
Intergenerational Dialogues - Spaces for Change (IDSC) promotes cooperation and cohesion between groups of different ages, with the aim of generating trust and enriching the process of localization, implementation, dynamization and evaluation of the Agenda 2030 in the Canary Islands. The specific objectives pursued by IDSC are:
1. Understand the situation
1.1. Diagnose how much the participation groups know about the Agenda Canaria 2030 (https://canarias2030.org/)
1.2. Simplify the Agenda Canaria 2030 for the understanding of the action priorities and goals with the participation of the child, youth and elderly population
1.3. Disseminate the contents of the Agenda Canaria 2030 in the communities through expressions of the living community culture
2. Build collaborative engagement
2.1. Identify, locate and activate spaces within the Network of Educational Centers, as well as other underused and/or disused public spaces in the Canary Islands for organized citizens, active agents and local initiatives from which to dialogue-doing as a community
2.2. Promote social and public recognition of Intergenerational Dialogues and Spaces with the support of public and private entities
2.3. Build an ecosystem to support citizen initiatives to guarantee their achievement, financing and sustainability over time by different agents, both public and private.
3. Build community
3.1. Make a community group through shared leadership between people of different generations for community transformation
3.2. Generate collaboration processes and intergenerational communication channels with the needs for community development and strengthening
3.3. Design a common action methodology for all civic spaces located on the different islands with interdependence and the ability to adapt to local needs
4. Evolve
4.1. Locate and accompany citizen initiatives on the islands directly linked to the goals of the Agenda Canaria 2030 that lack support for their continuity
4.2. Pilot and validate community initiatives that respond to the local challenges of the Agenda Canaria 2030
4.3. Replicate initiatives that have generated impacts that can be adapted to other spaces and contexts within the Canarian territory
Intergenerational Dialogues - Spaces for Change is built on pillars such as collective ideation, shared involvement, participatory governance, and equality and diversity focused on the common benefit.
In this way, it has managed to materialize ideas and take conscious action through achievable projects that promote social and environmental transformation in the Canary Islands, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Canary Islands 2030 Agenda.
Through collaborative diagnosis and mapping, reflection and dialogue were encouraged, with the aim of enabling local communities to identify issues in their territories and propose and co-design specific actions to address them. Moreover, all of this fosters the creation of a shared commitment that values culture and collective intelligence.
Throughout this process, we have forged alliances with local communities, educational centers, municipalities, organizations, and artists across the Canary Islands. In the first 6 months, the initiative has achieved presence in all 8 Canary Islands, direct participation from 269 individuals (174 women and 95 men), involvement of 9 educational centers, activation of 9 civic spaces, and more than 30 affiliated entities. Among other artistic displays, 1 rap song and 5 murals have been designed.
As a future proposal, it’s suggested that the civic spaces be linked to other projects promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands related to the promotion of the Canary Islands 2030 Agenda at an island, municipal, or neighborhood level.
Furthermore, Cabildos (Island Councils) and Municipalities will be encouraged to utilize these civic spaces to channel the participation of children, youth, and the elderly in their own projects.
The project, financed by the Canary Islands Government, is conceived, designed and developed by the Laboratorio de Innovación Social de la Universidad de La Laguna (LabINS ULL), labins.es. The regional network of educational and training centers collaborate with Dialogos Intergeneracionales - Espacios para el cambio.

Other beneficiaries
The main beneficiaries are children, adolescents, youth and older people who actively participate in these civic spaces. This is the fundamental reason for implementing these spaces: to give a voice to groups that are normally left out of participatory processes. Additionally, local governments and the neighborhoods and towns in which the network of civic spaces is located will benefit from the dynamics of community work
