Description
The IAU Global Cluster on HESD promotes the role and potential that HEIs globally have in order to achieve the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda. The Cluster encourages collaboration and takes a holistic approach to the SDGs, focusing specifically on the whole-institution approach. In 2018, IAU approach different higher education institutions from its network to invite them to coordinate the work on different SDGs in a Cluster network. Since the inception meeting at UNESCO in January 2019, the Cluster has mobilized around 70 universities transforming their teaching and learning, research, community engagement and campus operations towards the SDGs.

IAU is coordinating the work and providing support to the cluster leads, such as regular communications, meetings, bringing engagement opportunities, research call and other relevant information to their attention. The Cluster Leads organize meetings with the different SDG groups and are in regular contact with them.
Bi-annual meetings of the group allow for reflection and mapping out next steps, guided by the strategy and working plan (March 2022). Senior advice is provided by the HESD working group consisting of IAU Board members and university leadership. Network members report annually to IAU and list recent projects towards one or several SDGs.
