    Description
    Description

HelpNearby is a free digital platform that helps vulnerable people find nearby help: food, medical assistance, and shelter. It works in any city worldwide using open OpenStreetMap data combined with a manually verified network of organizations. The platform is free, requires no registration, supports 7 languages, and has a lite mode for slow internet connections, making it accessible to people in low-connectivity and crisis regions.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

The platform combines two data layers: a global layer based on OpenStreetMap (Overpass API) covering any city worldwide, and a regional layer of organizations manually verified by the team using official sources. Users access help directly through a map and list, with options to call or get directions.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

The project uses open-source technologies and open data, allowing other schools and communities to adapt and replicate the solution in their own regions. Team members develop skills in data verification, project management, and technology.

    Coordination mechanisms

The project is student-led. It is coordinated by the founder and a small team of students, with support from school management. Each team member has a defined role: development, data research and verification, and outreach.

    Evaluation

Impact is measured through analytics: number of contacts made with organizations (calls, directions requests), number of active users, and number of countries reached. The verified organization network and country coverage are also tracked.
