Description
- SDG 3: Good health and wellbeing. Through technological innovation, we contribute to improved health and wellbeing in two main ways: with light that increases food availability & quality and with light that helps people to see, feel and function better
- SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy. As part of our Brighter Lives, Better World commitments, we will be powered by 100% renewable electricity by the end of 2020. By distributing our solar LED products to off-grid and underserved communities, we increase the access to both affordable and clean electric light sources. We also drive energy efficiency through active engagement in private-public partnership.
SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth. We are committed to support 10,000 lighting entrepreneurs with technical and business skills development and our sustainable supply chain program helps our suppliers to improve working conditions for their employees. We are also committed to ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for our worldwide employees through our injury prevention program and initiatives across our sites.
- SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities. We are committed to make all of our buildings worldwide net zero carbon buildings by the end of 2020. We are also accelerating the renovation rate of buildings, upgrading infrastructure, and offsetting unavoidable emissions through projects with positive socio-economic impacts for local communities. Through the Signify Foundation we provide communities in crisis access to light through our humanitarian solar LED lighting.
- SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production. We address the resource challenge associated with population growth through our zero waste to landfill program and our circular economy approach. By the end of 2020, all our production sites are committed to reach zero waste to landfill ambition. With our circular economy program, we provide products which are designed for easy disassembly, repurposing and longer lifetimes to save materials, including 3D printing, serviceable luminaires, lights with replaceable components and circular services.
- SDG 13: Climate action. We set Science Based Targets that are in line with Paris Agreement 1.5 degree pathway. We have implemented several energy efficiency and carbon reduction programs to achieve carbon neutrality by the end of 2020, and we actively work with suppliers to implement measures to reduce their environmental footprint. Our portfolio of connected and energy efficient products, systems, and services and solar products offer low carbon alternatives that are fit for sustainable consumption patterns.
With the above mentioned commitments and actions, the expected impacts are:
-SDG 3: increase food availability and quality through horticulture and animal lighting, increase the supply of food while minimizing resource use and environmental impact. Our human centric lighting for health and wellbeing helps people to see, feel and function better.
- SDG 7: increase the demand for renewable energy, increase the availability of clean energy sources, and increase the access to both affordable and clean electric light sources for off-grid and underserved communities.
- SDG 8: support 10,000 lighting entrepreneurs with technical and business skills development; improve working conditions for employees of our suppliers; ensure and maintain a safe and healthy workplace for our worldwide employee (32K FTEs).
- SDG 11: increase energy efficiency and reduce GHG emissions of buildings; provide positive socio-economic impacts for local and underserved communities.
- SDG 12: ease the stress of resource challenge in the near future, contributing to raising awareness about circular mindset and building capacity for circular economy/low carbon economy.
- SDG 13: by 2030, reduce 70% absolute Scope 1&2 GHG emissions and 30% Scope 3 GHG emissions (2015 baseline), which is in line with Paris Agreement 1.5 degree pathway; increase operational energy efficiency; and help suppliers to achieve emission reduction and encourage their suppliers to do the same.
