Description
Sanitation and the feeling of cleanliness are important for more facets than just general physical health. Having a sanitary area and body helps reduce stress, which is surely experienced in the conditions of these encampments, by reducing anxieties that pertain to molds, diseases, and allergies and increasing the feeling of comfort. This initiative focuses on creating sanitary conditions and general wellbeing for refugee communities by:
- Providing clean water and sanitation to at least 10,000 individuals daily through the use and maintenance of portable hand washing stations. These hand washing stations are low cost, sustainably managed, can be transported whenever the need arises, and will remain available for public during the normal operation hours of La Casa de Los Pobres and La Casa del Migrante; we are making plans to expand this service to after-hours use after some experimentation so that hand washing stations remain available 24 hours.
- Simultaneously, provide reusable cloth PPE to reduce the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19 for refugees that come to either shelter in search of clean water.
- Provide soaps and sanitizers to reduce the population’s risk of diseases such as cholera, dysentery, conjunctivitis. Can also be used for cleaning reusable cloth masks.
- Gain insight into the reasons for why refugees are leaving their countries through QR code questionnaires to gain better understanding of what projects and resources could be most effective applied for the betterment of life.
