Background

In response to the request of the Kenyan Micro and Small Enterprise Authority (MSEA), the Division for Sustainable Development Goals, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DSDG/DESA) has conducted an assessment on the Covid-19 pandemic impact on youth and women-led Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kenya. Having interviewed four hundred MSME entrepreneurs from forty-five counties of the country, the assessment has reached initial findings on challenges, demands and good practices MSMEs have encountered and initiated during the pandemic in the past years. It has informed evidence-based recommendations to policymaking process in Kenya for elevating MSME resilience and expanding MSME contributions to building back better in Kenya, where MSME formalization takes an important role. The workshop took place on 26 April 2022 in the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) compound. It received senior policymakers, national and local government officials and MSME entrepreneurs in Kenya. The workshop was delivered in a hybrid format.
