The 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) Regional Consultation for Arab States in Northern Africa and Western Asia will bring together scientists, policymakers, practitioners, civil society representatives, private-sector experts and other stakeholders from across the region to share evidence, experiences and perspectives on accelerating sustainable development.
The consultation will provide an opportunity to inform the 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report with region-specific knowledge on what is working, where key challenges remain, and which practical and scalable approaches can help accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals through 2030 and beyond. It will also allow members of the Independent Group of Scientists preparing the 2027 GSDR to engage directly with regional stakeholders and test emerging findings and policy recommendations against experiences from the region.
Discussions will give particular attention to strengthening human wellbeing and capabilities, achieving energy decarbonization with universal access to energy, and securing the global environmental commons. Participants will also explore cross-cutting issues including governance and institutional change, science and technology, financing, capacity development, regional cooperation, resilience to shocks and uncertainty, and the role of foresight and scenario analysis in shaping sustainable development pathways beyond 2030.
The consultation will contribute regional evidence, policy recommendations and practical case studies to the 2027 GSDR, helping strengthen the evidence base for the 2027 SDG Summit and wider deliberations on sustainable development beyond 2030.
