Description
Sweden continues the long-standing support to IOC-Unesco during 2022. The contribution will support work on ocean literacy and ecosystem-based management of the sea within the framework of the Ocean Decade. It will also specifically support African stakeholders to spark new partnerships and take lead for new Decade Actions. An even geographic representation of the Ocean Decade is important to achieve the vision on a global level. Sweden is also committed to national actions to contribute to the UN Decade for Ocean Science. The Swedish government has initiated a 10-year national research programme for oceans and water. The aim is to establish a strategic framework for marine research and facilitate close collaboration between science and stakeholders. It will enable international scientific collaborations.
