Rifò - Circular Fashion Made in Italy

Rifò (
Private sector
)
#SDGAction55178
    Description
    Description

Rifò aims to transform what is generally considered textile waste into a new resource. We design high-quality garments and accessories made with recycled and recyclable materials by local suppliers in the textile district of Prato. Our circular supply chain is located within a 30 km radius of our office as we are committed to supporting the local economy and limiting the environmental impact of our production. Using recycled materials provides significant benefits as it allows us to save natural resources such as water, energy, chemicals and carbon emissions. We have been a certified B-Corporation since 2020, meaning that we combine the goal of profit with the goal of generating positive impacts both on the environment and society. We created a social impact project - Nei Nostri Panni - in 2022, involving local migrants in paid internships to learn textile crafts at risk of disappearing.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

We internally design garments by following eco-design and circular economy principles. We then outsource our production to a network of local suppliers. We coordinate our local circular supply chain by establishing collaborative relationships with all the actors involved. We also organize and promote social impact projects aimed at creating job opportunities for local migrants while ensuring generational change for textile crafts at risk of disappearing.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

We train with our social impact project vulnerable migrants in the territory to be craftsmen. We aim to give a working opportunity to these people inside our value chain. Our goal is to ensure generational change for all the textile crafts linked to the recycling tradition of our district as they represent a fundamental know-how for the transition to a circular economy in fashion. We adopt an open innovation approach, by collaborating with suppliers and partners to develop new projects related to circularity. We believe in the power of knowledge sharing and always look for opportunities to develop circular synergies with other companies.

    Coordination mechanisms

The organiztion is governed centrally by Rifò that coordinates sales, the value chain and the social impact projects. We internally design garments and outsource the other phases of our production to local suppliers. We establish close and long-term relationships with them to foster innovation and collaboration in our local supply chain. We act as coordinators of our circular supply chain and directly manage all our innovative projects.

    Evaluation

We measure our impact according to 5 KPIs:
    1. % of recycled fibers used in our production
    2. % of post-consumer recycled fibers in denim, wool, cashmere collected with our take-back service
    3. Gender balance in the BoD and BoM
    4. Number of job opportunities created for local migrants in our territory
    5. % of production costs incurred for local production activities
