RESE: The Environ Truck
Description
The primary objective of Environ Truck initiative is to drive UN Sustainable Development Goals in the context of local issues. The hybrid-fuel truck built by students & educators - will travel across Tamil Nadu from 2017 to 2019.
The Environ Truck will carry models and literature about UN Global Goals. It will impart Sustainable Life Skills & Solutions for real-life problems by facilitating direct interaction between solution-providers (students & educators) and people.
The Environ Truck primary objective is to drive UN Sustainable Development Goals in the context of local issues. <br />

This will be achieved by the following;<br />

3. Short Films in local languages (often dubbed) <br />
4. Literature about UN Sustainable Development Goals available on the Environ Truck<br />
5. Short talks by Environ Truck volunteers on career and jobs in renewable sector<br />
6. Sustainable Life Skills Training e.g. how to make and use a solar water bulb<br />
7. Ask an Expert e.g. villagers will be able to talk directly with experts from the college in regards to their local issues and discuss sustainable solutions. The interaction will taken ahead by student groups after the Environ Truck leaves for the next destination. <br />
The Environ Truck will identify community leader(s) during its stoppages across the state of Tamil Nadu. These community leader(s) will be in turn assigned a group of students whom they can stay in touch after the Environ Truck has moved on to other destinations. <br />
<br />
Thereby, over the course of two years, the community leader(s) will share the local issues in real-time and the sustainable solutions for them will be facilitated by the students team. This facilitation will involve technology transfer e.g. solar lights as well as capacity building e.g. how to locally build rain-water harvesting systems and toilets. <br />
<br />
The Environ Truck will also find common ground between UN Sustainable Development Goals and Indian National Missions. <br />
The Environ Truck route and stoppages will be coordinated by a central team comprising primarily of students - stationed at Dr.Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology. <br />
<br />
The Environ Truck will travel much on state highways and make detours to villages which are by the highway. A distance of about 5,000 km will have to be covered over 2 years. A minimum of 50 stoppages will be done by the Environ Truck. In addition, the Environ Truck will be equipped by GPS tracking and weather guidance devices in order to optimize routes and safety. <br />
<br />
Social media platforms and tools like WhatsApp will be used to expedite interaction between the volunteers, villagers and the central team.<br />
<br />
The local coordination support from local government authorities will be coordinated beforehand by a dedicated team of educators. <br />
