MA Sustainable Fashion

Dr Sass Brown- Kingston University London (
Academic institution

    Description
    Description

Dr Brown runs a hands-on MA designed to develop sustainable fashion solutions that affect systems change, not to produce more products. The programme is designed to bridge the gap between sustainable fashion design and business. As such the programme spans cultural sustainability as well as environmental problems and solutions.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

Sustainable Fashion: Business and Practices is a MA offered by Kingston University London. It spans three terms and will be offered for the first time in September 2022.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Two out of five modules require community engagement with external stakeholders using fashion as a means to affect societal change. The outputs of these modules are determined by the students themselves and can range from communication vehicles (storytelling, exhibitions, films, photographic series, websites, vlogs, blogs) to training, workshops and eCommerce that supports material culture. By default, that includes knowledge transfer, technology transfer and supports capacity building within the external partner organisations.

    Coordination mechanisms

As a validated MA we are overseen by the QAA, the UK wide academic governance quality control body. It is also overseen and evaluated by Kingston University's internal quality control and validation mechanisms that require annual review. As a single programme, it is overseen by the department - Fashion, and the school - Kingston School of Art, with reporting mechanism in place for all those stake holders.

    Evaluation

As an Masters programme at one of the UK's premier art and design institutions the programme has multiple levels of oversight, reporting and validation on an annual basis.

    Partners

Kingston's Women's Hub, a partner oganisation of Voices of Hope. This is a brand new programme not launching until September 2022, so partnerships will be built as the programme progresses.
