    Title : Aquaculture Program in the Fimela District Promotion of Fish Farming and Oyster farming in the municipalities of Fimela and Palmarin Facao


    Objective : Contribute to the conservation, sustainable management and enhancement of fishery resources for the benefit of present and future generations of the island areas of the Fimela district.

    Objective 1 : Promote fish farming in the village of Ndangane to increase and diversify income sources, ensure the supply of Tilapia in the local market and ensure food self-sufficiency at the end of the Project.

    Objective 2 : Create oyster farms at the farmer level for oyster production with improved and sustainable practices in the villages of Djifére, Palmarin and Mar Lothie to increase the incomes of women producers.


    EXPECTED RESULTS

    R1.1: Tilapia fish are available at all times and in sufficient quantity in the village of Ndangane;

    R1.2: the basic principles of fish farming are known and controlled by the populations of the Project area;

    R1.3: Jobs are created by involving young people in the implementation of the Project;

    R2.1 the incomes of women producers have increased by a better profitability of the oyster farming activity;

    R2.2 better access to protein resources is ensured for populations throughout the year;

    R2.3 an adequate and sustainable production technique is made available to women producers.

    The method consists in sowing in fingerlings of average weight 30 to 50 grams at a rate of 250 individuals / m3 or 2500 fish per cage corresponding to a total of 25 000 juveniles per community or module. Because of the 10% mortality during rearing, this number will be added at the start of which a total of 26,500 juveniles per cage. The food to be used will be that of Sentenac with of course recommendations on the granulometry of the pellets so that the size is adapted to the mouth of the fish to be raised. The harvest will be done after 6 months of breeding. Production in year 1 will be 1125 kg per cage, for a total of 11,250 kg
    The density is increased from 250 to 300 individuals / m3. The annual production is 13,500 kg.
    The density is increased from 350 to 400 individuals / m3 thus allowing an annual production of 27 000 kg.
    A module of five new cages is added to the existing 10. The density is also increased from 300 to 350 individuals / m3. The annual production is 23 625 kg.
