JLR Hope School Programme It connects with SDG’s targets in: -Quality Education -Clean Water and Sanitation -Reduced Inequalities

    Intro

    1. 2014, the previous school was completely destroyed and students had no school to study at. JLR then donated RMB 5 million ($ 746k) for its reconstruction.<br />
    2. Due to imbalance of teaching resources distribution, the teacher to student ratio in rural areas was 1:40 and students couldn&#39;t receive decent education.<br />
    3. Corporate tradition: utilize the resources of JLR by actively engaging dealers, employees, media and the public to render support to this school. <br />
    4. Due to remote location and undeveloped economy, students from poor rural areas in China are not able to get quality education.

    Objective of the practice

    1. Objectives: <br />
    - Create a safe and functional school environment. <br />
    - Help students in poor rural areas get access to quality education and grow healthily.<br />
    - Build a sustainable platform engaging both internal and external stakeholders<br />

    2. Distinguishing features:<br />
    - Beyond one-off donation for the construction of school, notably, JLR also aims for its sustainable development utilizing the resources of the company <br />
    - Innovative model: Dream Class Volunteer Teaching Programme benefits both students and volunteer teachers by conducting all-round training for volunteer teachers to empower their capabilities and career, ends up enriching students’ lives and study.<br />
    - Comprehensive training courses for volunteer teachers as well as local teachers.<br />
    - Reasonable volunteering period: 2-3 years’ plan ensures students improve gradually on a stable basis, to avoid negative influence brought due to frequent turnover of teachers. <br />
    - Wide range of beneficiaries: Students and volunteer teachers at JLR Hope School, local teachers, JLR dealers and employees.<br />
    - Career planning for volunteer teachers: JLR conducts one-on-one Dream Mentor initiative by organizing executives to guide volunteer teachers. <br />

    - Quality Education: Volunteer Teaching programme provides the opportunity of quality education for students, by sending systematically trained volunteer teachers conducting colorful teaching activities in a long commitment.<br />
    - Sanitation: Help students develop sanitation and health habit through sanitation class. Donate clean water equipment.<br />
    - Reduced Inequalities: Narrow regional gap by assisting poor rural areas in living and education condition.

    1. Methods of engagement:
    - Facilities support – through the one-off donation to rebuild schoold after earthquake striked and annual support via Warming Winter Action to organize executives serve as mentor teachers, raise fund through online platform, donate facilities, clean water equipment, gifts and conduct visit.
    - Volunteer teaching - join hands with Teach Future China to train and send volunteer teachers to ensure there are always 8 volunteer teachers in situ.

    2. Outcome validated by stakeholders:
    - Parents who worked in cities far away from hometown said, “I plan to send my kids back to hometown to study because the education condition here in Jaguar Land Rover Hope School is way better than some schools in cities.”
    - After close talk with headmaster, we’ve learnt that students now are able to get access to more colorful courses thanks to volunteer teachers and the grades of students have also improved.

    3. Innovative partnership:
    - Joint initiative with China Soong Ching Ling Foundation constitutes a wide shared value involving dealers, customers, employees, media and society.
    - Join hands with Teach Future China, an existing and professional volunteer teaching NGO

    Results/Outputs/Impacts
    1. Jaguar Land Rover raised fund and donated facility for school, including dormitory, library, center for left-behind children, clean water equipment, office equipment and gifts.
    2. This programme produces positive impact for students’ healthy growth and future development for volunteer teachers.
    3. Students enjoys more colorful courses and sound education, ending up improving their grades and also attitude towards life.

    1. Enabling factors:
    - Support from China Youth Development Foundation, Teach Future China, local education bureau, dealers, Jaguar Land Rover customers and employees and the public.
    - Resources and platforms of Jaguar Land Rover.

    2. Constraints:
    - What the programme could support is limited from the long run, as the similar problem would occur again when the programme ends.
    - Long distance and inconvenient transportation
    Sustainability and replicability
    1. The model delivers life-long benefits to both students and volunteer teachers, by providing systematic training to teachers, is replicable elsewhere. The knowledge and skills learnt will sustain to influence them even the programme ends.
    2. Prior to Dream Class, Jaguar Land Rover has been working on donating school, dormitory, library, clean water equipment and ongoing donations which is set to sustain for a long period.
    3. Future plan: The school will expand to a platform compatible of future great programmes, upholding the existing efforts of volunteer teaching and continuing coordination with local bureaus. The initiatives will help optimize left-behind structure, contributing to local education and economy.
    Conclusions

    1. JLR Hope School Programme is a long-term initiative committed to quality education for children in poor rural areas in China. We aim to build the school a platform available for future good CSR programmes, engaging volunteering JLR dealers, and employees and creating a shared value.<br />
    2. The Hope School programme has significantly improved the school environment by both facility construction and a series of initiatives including annual Warming Winter Action.<br />
    3. Engaging wider range of participants, the programme aims to build a sustainable school for the well-being from the long run, benefiting both students and local community.
