Background
The Division for Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office and UNDP in Zimbabwe is organizing a Trinational SDGs Localization and Voluntary Local Reviews Capacity Building Workshop (Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe), Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, from 4-6 February 2025. ) The workshop is being organized under the XB (Italy) project Strengthening local and national government capacities for SDG localization in Africa.
In line with the commitment made in the 2023 SDG Summit Declaration as well as in the 2024 Pact for the Future, this event will continue to build the capacities of national and local government authorities and key stakeholder from Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe for effective SDG localization, including through the process of preparing voluntary local reviews (VLRs) and monitoring of progress. It will also provide an opportunity for local governments from South Africa and Zimbabwe that have finalized VLRs under the now-concluded Italy funded Improved local and national government capacities for localizing SDG progress through Voluntary Local Reviews project, and local governments from Mozambique that are preparing VLRs, to share their experiences and lessons learned and to plan future actions to advance SDG implementation.
