Background
DESA and the Government of Zimbabwe, together with the Office of the Resident Coordinator, and in partnership with UNECA and UN-Habitat, are organizing the “National Voluntary Local Review Capacity Building Workshop” in Harare, from 28 to 30 March 2022. The workshop will bring together local and national government officials and stakeholders for capacity building on voluntary local reviews (VLRs). The workshop kicks off a project, funded by the UN Regular Programme of Technical Cooperation, to support VLRs in four local authorities: Bulawayo City Council, Zvishavane Town Council, Mutasa Regional District Council, and Nkayi Regional District Council. Through the process of development of the VLRs, it is anticipated that officials will strengthen their abilities to effectively engage stakeholders, gather and utilize SDG-related data for monitoring and policy planning, and strengthen institutional coordination mechanisms for local-level SDG implementation.
