Ambassadorial meeting of the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States 2026

Background
The Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS) recognizes the central role of multi-stakeholder partnerships in supporting sustainable development in small island developing states (SIDS) and in accelerating implementation at the national, regional, and global levels. The SIDS Partnership Framework serves as a key mechanism for mobilizing, coordinating, and showcasing such partnerships.
Paragraph 37 of ABAS requested the Secretary-General, in consultation with States, including through the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States, to present recommendations for the strengthening of the Small Island Developing States Partnership Framework and the Small Island Developing States Global Business Network and its Forum.
In paragraph 21 of resolution A/RES/80/136, the General Assembly took note with appreciation of the recommendations for strengthening the SIDS Partnership Framework and reaffirmed the important role of the Framework and the Steering Committee on Partnerships for SIDS. The General Assembly further encouraged enhanced stakeholder engagement and awareness, the exploration of the designation of SIDS Partnership Champions, the convening of national and regional multi-stakeholder dialogues, and measures to enhance the Global Multi-stakeholder SIDS Partnership Dialogue. It also requested strengthened Secretariat support and invited further analysis of proposals related to the SIDS Global Business Network and its Forum.
As the first Steering Committee meeting following the adoption of the resolution, members considered the proposed work programme for 2026, with a focus on the proposed operationalization of the new mandates contained in the resolution.
