Thank you co facilitators, distinguished delegates.
Good morning, my name is Veronica Robledo from WWF-Colombia.
WWF welcomes the follow up and review paper released last week.
Biodiversity, natural resources, freshwater, oceans, fresh air and healthy soils sustain all life, all
economies and all human well being.
It is essential that the implementation of the SDGs and these follow up and review mechanisms
guarantee integration. Moreover, they should support the embedding of the real value of ecosystem
services, well-being, and human capital into national accounting systems, and national and local
development plans and strategies.
The outlined model is a good base. We note the model shown is lineal, with arrows going only in
one direction from national to regional to global. It would be valuable to have a more flexible and
circular system, offering feedback and responsiveness to the trends identified. In this regard, we
see a strong follow up and review process as part of the Means of Implementation for the SDGs.
We would like to stress the importance of the thematic review process. It provides a strong basis for
assessing the integration of goals and targets at national, regional and global level. It will help to
provide policy support and recommendations into all levels of the system around specific goal areas
and allow assessment of progress in a transboundary context.
Member states, you are not on your own. We will join with you. WWF has just taken a decision to
align our future program, explicitly to assist with delivery of the SDGs.
Finally, may we take the opportunity to congratulate and thank the co-chairs past and present, the
member states, institutions and other civil society colleagues who have been working for four years
to create this ambitious agenda for our survival. We know it will be hard work to implement this.
But our future deserves nothing less.
