Statement by Turkey
Intergovernmental Negotiations on Post 2015 Development Agenda
(31 July 2015)
Distinguished Co Facilitators,
We join others in commending you for having revised the outcome document in such a short time and for taking us very close to the finish line after a 7 months long work.
I will be very brief.
On Preamble. We prefer to have shorter version of Preamble as a communication tool, if eventually we all agree to have a Preamble.
In Declaration, in Our Vision part, para 7. We suggest to amend 4th sentence in para 7 to make it consistent with the language in target 6.1 and ensure coherence with the whole of the para 7. Our suggestion reads as, I quote, “A world where drinking water is safe, affordable and accessible,.....”.
On Goals and Targets. We are dissappointed that the proposed revisions to targets 1.5 and 11.5 were not reflected in the latest version of the draft. We have consistently supported the proposed tweaks for these targets and would like to once again call for bringing focus to the needs of the people affected by humanitarian emergencies as well as making a reference to humanitarian asssistance given its importance for disaster response.
I have to reiterate that we do not agree with the revision incorporated into target 14.c. We maintain our position that the language from the OWG outcome document should be preserved.
Thank you.
