Thailand
Mr. Co-facilitators,
Thailand joins others in expressing our deepest condolences on the passing of the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Djibouti.
Thailand associates ourselves with the statement made by South Africa on behalf of the Group G77 and China. And we wish to make the following points in our national capacity.
On the Means of Implementation and the Global Partnership, Thailand supports the proposal made by Malaysia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Iran, the Philippines, and several other countries to emphasize the specific challenges facing middle income countries.
The central role of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in ensuring sustainable development, especially in the areas of resilient infrastructure which promotes greater sub-regional connectivity, food and energy security and the sustainable management of water cannot be emphasized strongly enough. In this connection, Thailand welcomes and supports the establishment of a Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM) as agreed in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda in order to assist developing countries in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets.
We also wish to underline that Regional Commissions have a contributing role to play in helping Member States implement and achieve their SDGs. As host country of ESCAP, Thailand stands ready to share our experiences and best practices in our national development efforts and to cooperate with our peers within the region in the spirit of South-South and North-South cooperation.
Thank You.
