Solomon Islands
Mr. Chairman,
Solomon Islands would like to begin by associating itself with the statement delivered by
Grenada on behalf of AOSIS and Pakistan on behalf of the G77 and China.
Mr. Chairman,
On the Cross cutting issues, Solomon Islands would like to contribute by raising the
following points especially in dealing with the framework and means of implementation
of the commitments on sustainable development especially SIDS and LDCs and
recommend their reflection in the Chairman?s Text:
1. Better access to multilateral funding mechanisms to the most vulnerable countries
such as SIDS and LDCs
2. Seek support for the set of Insurance mechanism and its replication such as the
one in the CARICOM to other SIDS regions in dealing with climate change
challenges and disaster management
3. Call on the international community to support proven technology transfer
especially for development of renewable energy and capacity building
4. Empathized the importance of adopting Rural development based approach to
sustainable development to be incorporated into the CSD15 agreed mechanisms
to reach out to the most vulnerable groups such as women and children in the
areas of modern energy access and eco-tourism for SIDS
5. Emphasized that Commitments made to address sustainable development must be
matched with resources for implementation
6. Seek support for SIDSNETS for dissemination of information to facilitate
sustainable development and the unique challenges faced by SIDS
7. Call to support the set up of a global renewable energy fund for development of
renewable energy for the most vulnerable countries.
My delegation close by assuring you of our cooperation and hope the plea of the most
vulnerable members of the UN will be heard and acted upon.
I thank you.
