Distinguished Chairperson, Excellencies Delegates,
Slovenia has been for long a devoted supporter of sustainable
development. This has been reflected in a number of development
indicators. But no doubt we can still do more and we shall do more.
However, we are fully aware of problems of unbalanced and badly
managed development in many parts of the world, in a great extent in
the developing countries. The figures on the world population without
access to basic sanitation and water are appallingly large.
In accordance with our capabilities we will be increasing our resources
devoted to development assistance beyond the present level mainly
channeled through multilateral mechanisms.
We are convinced the present system of development assistance does not
only require more resources but also better and more effective
implementation of accepted guidelines/programs for improvement of
water management and sanitation as the basic prerogatives for progress
in all areas of life. We thus fully support the initiatives and principles
endorsed by CSD.
We all know that many developmental problems are linked to the
consumption and production disparities. It is upon all of us to engage in
changing these disparities, not only as responsibility to our generation
but, no doubt, to the future generations. We should not deprive the
future generation of decent life due to negligence and lack of action in
the direction of priciples we all continously endorse.
Thank you.
