Dear Post 2015-DA Co-Facilitators,
Regarding para 31 on climate change, we propose the below text as an attempt to reach a consensus on this issue with minimal textual changes. The text follows:
We will address decisively the threat posed by climate change and environmental degradation. The global nature of climate change calls for the widest possible international cooperation aimed at achieving the objective of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in accordance with its principals and provisions. Noting the ongoing UNFCCC negotiations, and looking ahead to the COP21 conference in Paris in December, we call on all States to work for a comprehensive and ambitious climate agreement. We recall that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change provides that parties should protect the climate system for the benefit of present and future generations of humankind on the basis of equity and in accordance with their common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.
As for the paras addressing access to energy, we request the addition of ”universal” in order to be consistent with other paras related to energy.
Best regards.
