Saudi Arabia
Thank you, Mr. Co-Facilitator.
At the outset we would like to join other delegations in thanking you and your team for your leadership and hard work.
We appreciate the improvement in the revised document; however, we believe there is room for further improvement. Therefore we propose the following amendments in our national capacity:
Paragraph on people: in the fourth line we would like to propose to delete the “ensure equal access to natural resources”.
Paragraph 12: We would like to propose to delete the reference to ICPD and the Beijing platform of action and the outcome documents of their respective review conferences.
Paragraph 21: delete ‘gender-based” before discrimination because we commitment to work to eliminate “all forms of discrimination”
Paragraph 34 we would like to emphasize on the importance of retaining the language on foreign occupation.
Paragraph 44: On family we support the proposal mad by CARICOM and supported by the African Group, Arab Group, and several other individual delegations including, among others, Russia and Belarus.
LANGUAGE PROPOSAL: "We recognize the role of the family as a contributor to sustainable development and the need to strengthen family policy development in international efforts to achieve the internationally agreed development goals”
This language is agreed language and can be found in documents A/70/61 and HRC29/22.
Paragraph 70 E: we would like to propose to deletion of “marginalized groups”. Finally, I thank you Mr. Co-Facilitator.
First, we align ourselves with the statement delivered by South Africa on behalf of the Group of 77 and CHINA as well as the statement delivered by Qatar on behalf of the ARAB GROUP.
