The Netherlands
Statement by the Kingdom of The Netherlands
Joint Session between Financing for Development and Post-2015 Processes
24 April 2015
Monitoring & Accountability and Review
I have the honor to speak on behalf of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
I would like to align myself with the statement made by the European Union and add a few remarks in my national capacity.
Co-facilitators,
1. As you know by now, we equate the important work we are doing here to building humanity's home for the coming 15 years.
2. Monitoring and accountability are the indispensable foundation. Without this, the integrated pillars of our goals and our means will not be able to support the roof of our principles.
3. We will need a forum to assess progress, and see a key role for the HLPF. We hope the UNSG will mobilize the UN system to take stock regularly. And we need involvement of all relevant actors to ensure impact and inclusion.
4. We will need engagement at all levels.
- At the national level, we will have to invest in data and undertake action. We were able to share our national preparations for implementation of the post-2015 agenda and the consequences of universality in our country when we met last time in March.
- At the regional level, we will work within the EU to achieve the goals and mobilize resources.
- And at the international level, multilateral agencies should mobilize multi-stakeholder coalitions that can help achieve specific goals, working within the SDG framework. These agencies can also keep track of progress and report through their flagship reports.
- Additionally, we can build on our experience with other existing monitoring systems, such as the one spearheaded by the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation.
5. Finally, as the EU also expressed on behalf of us, we are committed to let the SDGs guide us and to enable the mobilization of international development assistance, domestic and other resources.
I thank you.
