Malta
REPUBLIC OF MALTA
Statement by
Mr. David Mansfield
First Secretary
Permanent Mission of the Republic of Malta to the United Nations
Intergovernmental Negotiations on the Post-2015 Agenda
Thank you, Co-facilitators.
28th July 2015 United Nations, New York
I wish to join others in commending you on the work that you have done and align myself with the statements made by the EU yesterday. I would however seek your indulgence to add a brief comment in my national capacity.
We have once again heard calls for the inclusion of highly divisive and sensitive issues, in particular the inclusion of non-consensus reference to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights into the Declaration. We regret to note that notwithstanding the lengthy and very difficult negotiations in the OWG some are still pushing for its inclusion.
While we continue to reiterate our full commitment to the promotion, protection and fulfillment of human rights, it is clear that the only consensus language is that which is included in the Goals and Targets. Any new formulation on SRHR, especially at this very late stage, will only hinder the process and the universal applicability of this important milestone that we hope to agree on by Friday.
Thank You.
