Major Group: Science & Technology
Scientific and technological Community Major Group
Final Remarks
Feb 27, 2009
Madame Chair,
The Scientific and Technological Major Group thanks you for your effective and efficient management
of the meetings this past week, and are pleased for this opportunity to emphasize two specific points.
Firstly Madame Chair, we strongly believe that a knowledge based approach to sustainable agriculture,
rural development, land and water management, drought and desertification is an essential outcome of
this CSD round. This will require specific emphasis on human capacity building through higher education,
in sciences and engineering and technological training, with specific emphasis on the youth and women.
Secondly Madame Chair, over the last four days we have heard repeated reference to infrastructure.
Our understanding is that Infrastructure encompasses Physical Infrastructure, Social Infrastructure, and
Economic infrastructures. While each is distinct, they are intertwined and each need gpolicyh to meet
the objectives of CSD]17.
Madame Chair, we have appreciated the opportunity to input into the IPM and look forward to
participation in the May meetings.
Thank You Madame Chair
