Major Group: Farmers
CSD-IPM March 3, 2011
Statement by Farmers Major Group made by Dr. Sarala Gopalan
Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on Contribution from CSD-19 to the UN
Conference on Sustainable Development
Mister Chairman,
From time to time, one gets the sense that the impending Conference on
Sustainable Development has meant that CSD 19 gets less attention. It is
important constructive conclusions be reached this May. Issues that have
received years of attention should result in agreed negotiated text that
forms a basis for the work at Rio+20.
In this regard, we hope the agreements of previous CSD sessions will be
considered the basis for Rio?s outcomes. The gaps in implementing these
many promises and agreements need to have a priority at Rio.
Together they form a foundation that builds toward a vision of the green
economy.
Then, we need ACTION among at national, regional, and multilateral
levels, in conjunction with multiple UN agencies, AND major groups.
