FINAL STATEMENT MADE BY IFAP - FARMERS ? Closing Session May 12 2006 Conf. Room 4 from

My nane is Maria Christina Pacheco, here representing IFAP farmers from a member organization called
ORPLANA, from Brazil.
Chairman, thank for this one minute giving to the Farmers to make the follow statement.
1-FARMERS producer of the FUEL for the human kind and lifestock have many challenges
lie ahead, and many new opportunities present themselves as well.
2-FARMERS can play an important role in planning for and meeting the call for renewable
energy and therefore, energy security needs.
3-Farmers are already doing a lot to use renewable energies and to mitigate and adapt to
climate change. However, their actions are not well documented. Farmers are ready to
continue making efforts and take there responsibility in this regard, but they should not be
alone. They need the support and incentives from all stakeholders including the
governments and the private sector. Farmers are ready to protect the environment and
produce food at the same time.
4-FARMERS are already involved in the Agroenergy economy, and could help a lot more
producing Green Energy all over the world in respect to human beings and Mother Earth.
Agroenergy is emerging as fossil fuel becomes economically, environmentally, and
politically unsustainable.
5-FARMES represent one of the most affected sectors by climate change but also as a sector
with a huge potential to address this problem. Agroenergy can provide an economic impatus
for agricultural and rural development and help rejuvenate rural economies with a significant
financial impact on farmers and agricultural businesses. More JOBS will be added to the
rural area - The utilisation of set-aside and under-utilised land shown to increase
employment potential by one person per twenty hectares dedicated to energy crops. B ut no
use of Florest land.
6 -If the DEVELOPDED countries invest, finance, transfer tecnology to produce
Agroenergy in the underdeveloped countries, we FARMERS from the Third world could
produce it, such as, Ethanol ?Biodiesel, Eletricity and FOOD. And POVERTY could
diminished of the world as planned and wished.
