The Afternoon Session / Industrial Development
Mr. Chairman, Distinguished guests,
Jordan fully aligns itself with the statement given by the honorable gentlemen from
Pakistan or behalf of the G77 and China.
In the spirit of Sustainable Development, Jordanian institutions have created the Jordan
Cleaner Production Program (JCPP) in coordination with UNIDO / UNEP, this national
coalition of Governmental, Non-governmental, private Sector and Academic institutions
provides SMEs with a wide range of environmental tools and services aimed at
minimizing negative environmental impacts caused by industrial activities by creating the
incentives necessary for the adoption and integration of improved environmental
management practices and environmentally friendly technologies.
Key issues that should be addressed:
? Support linkages between the industrial sector and the academic / research
and development alternatives and energy efficient renewable energy
alternatives and energy efficient production practices as a means to move
forward towards the adoption of environmentally friendly processes.
? Access to low interest rate financing to enable the industry to invest in
upgrading their manufacturing systems and adopt new environmentally
friendly technologies thus facilitating environmental compliance and
energy efficiency.
? Support should be also be directed towards labor intensive industrial
activities which create a sufficient number of job opportunities thus
elevating poverty.

In conclusion , Jordan welcomes the technical and financial support of the advance
nations in the areas mentioned above.

Morning Session, Air Pollution
Mr. Co- Chair,
Jordan fully aligns itself with the statement given by the honorable gentlemen from
Pakistan or behalf of the G77 and China and thanks the distinguished Panelists for their
informative presentations.
Mr. Chair,
Jordan is an active participant in all environmental agreements including the Vienna
Convention for The Protection of the Ozone Layer, The Montreal Protocol, UNFCCC,
CBD and the UNFCCD and also the Kyoto Protocol.
As such we have embarked since the 90s of the last Century on a very ambitious path to
bring about higher ambient air quality standards in cities across the Kingdom.
Including the following projects:
? Installing the Natural Gas Pipeline allowing major industries to benefit from the
clean energy resource.
? Phasing out of Lead in our Gasoline
? Introduction of a light rail Public Transportation amid at minimizing negative
transport related gas emissions.
? Transforming Electric Generation Power Plants from Fossil Fuel to Natural Gas
through the application of CDM.
? Applying the CDM financing to the Methane to Energy at major landfills.
? The Phase out of CFCs called for under the Montreal Protocol.
Mr. Co- Chair,
Jordan is committed to further implementation of air quality strategies, monitoring and
control which are paramount in safeguarding our biodiversity and the health of our
people.
? Energy efficiency technologies
? Renewable Energy Technologies
? Transfer of appropriate environmental technologies
? Monitoring of air quality technology in metropolitan Cities
Are but a few areas where ODA and technical assistance is needed.
Jordan stands ready and welcomes ODA and CDM partners and will facilitate the
necessary synergies and dissemination of the best available and affordable technologies.
