Japan
Thank you Mr. Chairman,
Japan consider that sharing good practices of each countries is the key of the
promotion of sustainable development.
As Mr. Okamoto said, Japan has a lot of experiences and challenges in the field of
energy and climate change because of limited domestic energy resources.
Now I would like to add two other examples of good practices for air pollution
management and industrial development in the region.
The first practice is the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia, which is
called as EANET. EANET is one of the first region-wide, co-operative networks
established in the region. Now thirteen countries participate in the Network.
The second practice is the 3R initiative, which is advocated worldly by us. The
initiative aims to establish a sound material cycle society through efforts to reduce,
reuse and recycle wastes.
Promotion of the 3Rs will result in a shift towards sustainable production and
consumption patterns.
Mr. Chairman,
The Japanese government believes that sharing such good and real practices will
contribute for the challenges in Asia-pacific region toward the sustainable
development.
Thank you.
