Israel
Thank you co-facilitators,
We welcome the short and concise introduction to the SDG chapter and believe that, as the co-facilitators stated, we should let the goals and targets speak for themselves.
Israel has maintained throughout the past sessions its support for the technical proofing of targets in order to ensure a high quality and ambitious outcome. Like others, we agree that the criteria for amendments have not been applied consistently across the targets; however we do believe that the revisions present a good compromise and therefore would support their inclusion.
Like others, we are concerned that duplicating the MoI targets and goal 17 in both chapters 2 and 3 might create redundancy and confusion for people outside this room. Therefore we support having them only once, and are flexible as for the placement in either chapter 2 or 3.
We know that some MS are concerned by splitting these targets from the rest of the SDGs as it would fragment the package that many of us have grown attached to. Perhaps a solution can be to leave them intact in chapter 2, and only refer to them in chapter 3 without copy pasting them again into the chapter. This way, it might also be easier to look at the entire goal set without having to go back and forth between the chapters.
On the indicators, like the Republic of Korea, we also welcome the decision to move the relevant paragraph to the follow-up and review section. We want to reiterate the importance of keeping the work of the Statistical Commission technical and professional in nature, and should make sure that this is made explicit in the text.
Finally, we would like to support the distinguished ambassador of Palau’s suggestion this morning to add a reference to children in Para 46 of the declaration.
Thank you
