Iceland
Statement of Iceland for the discussion on the Declaration of the Post-2015 Development Agenda
Friday 18 February 2015
Ms. Anna Pála Sverrisdóttir, Ministry for Foreign Affairs
• Thank you co-facilitators for preparing the document; which we think provides a good basis for further work and reflects our discussions these past few days.
• We feel the paper could be stronger on human rights, gender equality and the rule of law. Not only should these be key parts of our vision, but are also fundamental to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
• We agree with other members, including Mexico, Benin and France, that sustainable management of natural resources is key to eradicating hunger and poverty while ensuring lasting protection of our planet. It ´s a key concept that needs to be included in a short, visionary and solution-oriented declaration.
• As a country which has experienced the impact of natural disasters, we have much understanding for the call by a number of member states to include the concept of resilience.
• We´re confident that the co-facilitators will now be able to provide a zero draft with a compelling narrative that inspires action.
