Ghana
Thank you, Chair, for the opportunity to contribute to the
discussion.
Ghana associates herself with the statements on good governance
made on behalf of the G77 and China, as well as other
delegations, relating to the mining sector.
Governance issues are very significant and their adoption and
application need to be promoted. However, different strategies
are used to deal with this all important issues relating to
transparency and mutual accountability. There is no yardstick to
measure strategies dealing with governance issues, globally in a
forum like this.
We will therefore like to question whether it will not be useful at
this stage for the UN to commit to providing guidelines for all
countries to develop strategies to ensure good governance?
Finally, Ghana believes that, we need to move a step further to
ensure that issues raised and discussed at such fora are
implemented.
Thank you, Madam chair.
